The FR MIX method is an advanced beginner’s cubing method for 3x3 puzzle cube. It is a mixture of the Fridrich CFOP and ROUX methods, hence, the name FR MIX. Using this solving method, you will be able to solve a 3x3 puzzle cube in under 60 seconds.
There are 4 steps with only 9 algorithms in this method. The first 2 steps are derived from the Fridrich’s CFOP method where you create a cross and then followed by solving the first 2 layers (F2L) of the puzzle cube.
The third and fourth steps adopt the CMLL (Corners of the Last Layer) and LSE (Last Six Edges) approach of the ROUX method. The detailed steps of this FR MIX method are described in my tutorial video below. Be sure to check it out!
STEPS
Step 1 (CFOP) SETTING UP THE WHITE CROSS
This step is intuitive and it can be done easily with some practices. Hint: Skip the daisy!
Step 2 (CFOP) COMPLETE THE FIRST TWO LAYERS
This step is also intuitive. However, you can improve the timing in this step by learning all the F2L cases.
Step 3 (ROUX) SOLVE THE CORNERS OF THE LAST LAYER: CMLL
There are 2 parts in this step and only 1 algorithm you need to learn to each part. To improve the timing for this step, you can learn all the 42 CMLL algorithms and solve this step in one part instead.
Step 4 (ROUX) SOLVE THE LAST SIX EDGES: LSE
The last step is to complete the last six edges and the entire puzzle cube will be solved. There are also 2 parts in this final step. You will learn 3 and 4 simple algorithms for the first and second parts respectively. With some practices, you will be able to identify the cases in part 2 easily and thus reduce the timing.
